HIKING GRAN CANARIA, OUR GUIDED HIKING TOURS IN GRAN CANARIA
HIKING, GUIDED HIKING TOURS, HIKING HOLIDAYS AND HIKING WEEKS IN GRAN CANARIA
Outdoor activities such as hiking have always been very popular among visitors to Gran Canaria, but since Europe has been immersed in a pandemic, and living has become somewhat very limited, hiking has become our best alternative, whether at home or on holiday. And so many more people go hiking, promote contact and connection to nature and our natural environment and can actually enjoy some off time.
The Canary Islands offer one of the best destinations for hiking. The Spanish Islands in the Atlantic Ocean posses a unique climate, which is of course an excellent factor for us hikers. According to a study by the Syracuse University (New York), Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria, has one of the best climates in the world. Gran Canaria, the second largest island in the Canary Islands, offers a real hiking paradise. With various microclimate zones, the island is described as a miniature continent, and this is exactly our goal: to show you all the different treasures of Gran Canaria. A hiking holiday must be fun, but it is especially important to discover something new!
On our guided hiking tours we go through all microclimate zones, so that you might hike on one day through sunny valleys past avocado or papaya plantations, and the next through a dense laurel forest where a bit of drizzle can surprise us on our hike. This is all just a small part of the magical experiences we can live on our hiking trips. So, what are you waiting for? Sign up for a hiking tour!
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT GRAN CANARIA
With a surface area of 1560 km2 and a diameter of almost 45 km, Gran Canaria is the third largest island of the Canary Islands. The highest point is located at the Pico de las Nieves, the snow peak, with 1950 meters of altitude. There, you can spot a rock formation, the highest point of Gran Canaria, the Morro de la Agujereada, with 1956 Hm. Definitely worth a visit.
The tourist centers are of course located on the south side of the island, as in Playa del Inglés, Meloneras, Maspalomas, San Agustin, Puerto Rico and Mogan. However, in order to get an insight into the real Canarian culture, you definitely have to explore the middle and the north of the island. Small villages such as Agüimes, Teror, Agaete or Arucas must not be missed. Luckily, we always make a little detour there after our hikes!
On the north side, with almost 382,000 inhabitants, is also the capital of the island, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In Las Palmas you will find admirable sights such as the Cathedral of St. Ana, the House of Columbus, the Literary Cabinet, and many others; Everything located right in Vegueta, the old town, where you’ll also find the typical tapas bars we all know from mainland Spain.
